I have an Android HTC EVO Design 4G. I purchased and downloaded CameraPro, set most of the setting to what was suggested in the video above, and when I start recording a video I get, “An unknown error (0) occurred during starting video recording. Please try to restart CameraPro or your phone or use different video settings. Message: start failed.” I restarted…same message. I changed many of the video settings…same message. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app (that set everything to default) and I get the same message. Ideas?

Hey Bill, it is a finicky app! Just start with the basic, standard settings then experiment with improving quality, bit rate, size etc. as you go if you feel like it. Unlike iPhone, iPad and iPod there are hundreds of configurations for android smartphones. It all depends on your model of phone and capabilities of that model. When you experiment with the settings, change one setting at a time then attempt to use the camera. If it works, then try adjusting another setting. Just do one at a time though. Does this help at all?

The problem is that with the basic default, non-expert settings, it still won’t work (see error message in the last post). I did send an email to the developer.

My plan was to just change one setting at a time, but when it won’t work at all to begin with, that’s rough.

Hey Bill, you may want to try just using the standard app that comes with the camera but make sure it is on the highest quality settings. Try shooting some video with that and let me know how it looks.

Shall do. I got this back from the developer:

    Hi,

The HD mode is still in beta due to high Android device fragmentation. Please try to switch the mode to “Low quality” profile or to a resolution less than 720p.

    Regards,
    Harald Meyer

    I just sent him this:

    Harald,

When I set it on Low Quality, I got this when I tried to record:

“An unknown error (1) (100,0) occurred during recording. Please try to restart CameraPro or your phone.”

I then did a forced stop of the CameraPro app, and went into CameraPro and got the same result (above error message).

I then restarted (rebooted) the phone and tried again…same error message above.

Please give me suggested expert values: (I have copied the settings so you can just add values by each one on the reply)

    Video Profile
    Max recording duration
    Max file size
    Automatic file splitting
    Play video after capturing
    Enable video expert mode
    Copy profile settings
    Video split delay
    Record audio
    Number audio channels
    Audio codec
    Audio encoding bit rate
    Audio sampling rate
    Video capture rate
    Video output format
    Video codec
    Video encoding bit rate
    Video frame rate
    Video size width
    Video size height

    Thanks,

    Bill

Here’s the latest from the developer…

    ———–

    Hi,

    Sorry for the delayed reply.
When you change the default video quality setting (first point under “Video Profile”) and enable “Copy profile settings” then the proposed (by the device manufacturer) video settings are loaded into the expert video mode settings fields. The problem with HD mode is, that “hacks” are required for each phone model (even within one brand; e.g. Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy S2 need different hacks) to make it work properly. So changing the expert video mode settings alone might not lead to success.

    Regards,
    Harald Meyer

    Matthew,

Ok…what’s your second best recommendation for an Andriod?
