Hi Kent. Thanks for posting your question. it is most likely one of three problems:
1. the microphone needs to be plugged in at a different sequence; turn off phone to reset. turn it on and select FilMicPro video app (that is the one I use and recommend), make sure the audio meter is showing (check settings in the app), then do a test without the mic plugged in yet. You should see the audio meter going up and down as you talk. Next plug in the mic adapter with the mic plugged in and the microphone turned off. You should talk now and the audio meter should not show up. When you turn the mic (with the battery in) the audio meter should move with voice or sound.
2. Possibly a bad cable
3. You may have purchased the cable for a “Line level” and not mic.
Did you buy the cable at KVConnection.com? check to see that you purchased the one for the mic if trying #1 doesn’t work.
Let me know how it goes.

Hey, Matt,
I have the AudioTechnia lavaliere mic you have, and I bought the adapter you recommended. Are there any tricks to using it, though? I recorded with it today, but the video had no sound. When I went to turn the sound up, it said, “headphones.” Help!!!
